Lina Barouch-Biography
I am a London-based visual artist, literary scholar (D.Phil) and translator. I work primarily in painting, often testing the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, while also combining sculpture and installation, all in oder to echo perpetual movement - between my mixed cultural heritages, geographies and professional paths.
I attained the D.Phil in German at the University of Oxford in 2012 and the Diploma in Fine Art at Minshar College for Art, Tel Aviv, in 2023. In my London studio I continue to explore the abounding relationships between my Eastern-Mediterranean and European heritages, drawing on their visual and textual cultures and landscapes. In London I am also part of the North London Group's studio, online, museum and open-air workshops.
In 2020 I curated the online exhibition Poetic Textures - Else Lasker-Schüler Archives on the poet and artist Else Lasker-Schüler (1869-1945), in which I combined my artistic interests and scholarly expertise.
My academic publication are concerned mainly with questions of linguistic and literary dislocation and exile in early twentieth-century and post-war German-Jewish writing (see my 2016 book Between German and Hebrew: The Counterlanguages of Gershom Scholem, Werner Kraft and Ludwig Strauss) . I've published extensively on Kabbalah scholar Gershom Scholem’s early writings, on the poet Paul Celan, and generally on German exile literature in British Mandate Palestine and Israel. For my my publications see my personal page on academia.edu.

This website is designed mainly to present my visual art projects since 2020.
